But I had manged to surf it at one of the Munich river surfing spots.

So I felt it was time for the ultimate Munich surf experience, the “Eisbach”. I had already “surfed” there a few years ago with a wooded plank that was used like a water-ski by holding a rope fixed on a tree and let the strong current produce the speed necessary to make this thing plane. But I had never before surfed the mythical standing wave at the Reichenbachbrücke.

It was a warm day in July and we decided to ride the about 15 kilometres distance to the Eisbach with bicycles. I had tied the board to a backpack and this way transported it upright. This led to some sketchy ride when wind gusts caught the board. When passing underneath bridges I had to bend forward to avoid ramming the tip of the board into the bridge. But we finally reached the Eisbach without any serious damage.
