So, I was ready to try it again. The forcasts showed a massive depression due to hit the island mid week. My expectations were high.

I couldn´t convince too many of my travel buddies to join me. Like allways they are suspicious when it comes to searching waves in the mediterranean. Yeah, everybody has seen the odd pic showing solid waves, but still most of them wouldn´t take 2 days of travelling just to get there. They´d rather go to France or Spain or even further down south because they think the waves in the med cannot get quite as good compared to the good ol´ Atlantic. They don´t know nothing......

So Jörg was the only one who would join me. He got a cheap flight to Olbia and would arrive mid week, when the winds and waves were expected.

I went the traditional way, packed my van and hit the road. In south Germany I ran into heavy snowfall with blocked roads which made me decide to stay there an extra day until the roads were free again.

I passed the alps via the Brenner pass and pondered about another stop for a little snowboard session but finaly decided to keep on going. I didn´t want to miss a single day in the fear that the flatness spell would be put on me again. Drove all night until I reached the tuscan coast. I fell asleep with the sound of waves and hoped for a morning surf session the next day. The winds were offshore....

The first thing I did when I woke up was checking the sea. It was still offshore but the waves were not even knee high. To better my mood I went for a coffee and some brioches in Forte de Marmi.

It wasn´t very far for Piombino, where I would take the ferry in the evening, so I took it easy and used the time to visit some places in beautifull Toskana.

Near Piombino I stumbled upon a nice bay where the now stronger northwesterly wind came in sideonshore. I thought about giving it a go but decided that it was too cold for the maximum average conditions.
