It was pretty easy to fall into a relaxed state of mind, with so much wind, waves, coastline at our disposure, not to mention the australian mentality. Westaustralia is definitely a place to feel right at home. Over the years, a lot of Europeans settled along the coast. Werner is a fine example, having swapped the swiss mountains with the sanddunes of Lancelin, owning and operating the only surfschool in town. To see him at the beach, answering a call on his mobile with the words „Werner here, yes, I´m in the office..“ is the perfect showcase of the australian way of life.

Werner is not the only one, enjoying the laid back australian lifestyle, even despite of all dangerous animals that also call Australia their home. Basically everything that is highly poisonous  And deadly lives here. Snakes, Spiders, you name it....and if they are bigger, they might not be venomous, but likely to strangle you.

But there are also a few harmless and tasty animals, living just of the coastline. Lancelin is one of the prime fishinggrounds for crayfish, or lobster and season started right on our arrival, that´s perfect timing. Due to the demand especially at the start of the season, the prices for crayfish were up in the sky, but came falling down like a meteor the moment China opted to stop the import of crayfish over a political querrel with Australia. With the main market gone, crayfish was one of the cheaper dinning options...and once a political crisis had a positive effect, at least on our final barbeque party....planing already our return to this beautiful place.

By the way, another one returning to Westaustralia was the captain of the vessel Batavia as he returned with another ship from Jakarta, salvaged most of the sunken treasures and brought back the few survivors of the tragedy.
