Francisco Fonseca (Portugal_1st participation on a Wave Classic) Morocco is every windsurfers dream...a lot of windy days, waves at every corner of the coast, culture , history , and some of the nicest & warmest people you´ll ever meet...and just to cap it off, Morocco has great food, my special favorite being the Tagine and the amazing local mint tea!! The Morocco Wave classic Invitational was my first my first contact with team competition. To tell you the truth, I didn´t know exactly what to expect, I was kinda worried about the extra pressure that having a team might bring to the competing members at the time, but what I was surprised to see that it works the other way and just the simple fact of knowing that you are part of a team makes you sail more relaxed and gives you extra motivation to do well. My team was a super young and talented team. I was especially impressed with Abdel Labdi (that I had never seen sail) and his go for it attitude, as well as Zane’s jump progression in just 10 days, and Jb one of the initiators of the Wave Classic Invitational concept. We ended up in 4th place but we got better every round and nearly won the last round. So if the competition went on, I think we would have ended up climbing up the ladder!! Moulay just showed us a little peak of what it has to offer but it was enough for all the Boys to go off. The locals were also super impressive. I had seen a couple of them sailing before, like Fettah. So I knew what kind of level to expect but that was 7 years ago and the influence of super star Boujmaa has obviously influenced the sailing of the locals and they were showing us all they can do and just how well they know their home spot. What I brought home with me from this event are just great memories that will last a life time, good times with the boys!!...Sailing and sharing waves with friends... Thats what it’s all about on the Wave Classics.
Robin Goffinet (France_3rd participation on a Wave Classic) This team concept is perfect because you don't think only about yourself like in other contests. You sail for your team, then you watch your team mates sailing and that's created a friendly atmosphere. Morocco and especially Essaouira is a beautiful place with very gentle people, good food and good starboard wind conditions for training. The local guys are very impressive in strong wind jumping conditions. My team is the last one and I didn't give a lot of points to my team... My best souvenir on this event is the last evening surfsailing free session in Moulay with long clean waves and side off wind and all the good moments we had together during this "trip". next page >>>
