[SantaTowInBigSession p2]

SantaTowinBigSession

Since a couple of years, Europeans – and surfers from around the world – discover the big wave potential of the old continent. The winter of 2006 / 2007 already has been very good concerning waves of consequence and the winter of 2007 / 2008 started promising.

One of the hot spots for big stuff is the Canary Islands with Tenerife standing out. A couple of epic towin sessions have been reported during the past seasons. So a strong local big wave riding scene has established and consequently now the first big wave event is running.

The SantaTowinBigSesion whose waiting period is running since a couple of weeks is not a classic contest. The event organized by La Santa Surf, is more a gathering of towin surfers. The events focus is on giving European towin surfers the opportunity of connecting with other fellow big wave surfers, share experiences, knowledge, discuss upcoming shapes, problems or common incidences and, still most important, sharing a tow-in session without the weight of a competitions in the back.

There will be no points to scramble for, no heats, no priority, no results, just pure SURF.

The chosen wave is the left of "El Bravo". As its name already indicates, it's a rude wave. El Bravo is located in the city of Puerto de La Cruz, up to the north of Tenerife (Canary Islands). The wave is powerful and breaks dangerously close to the sharp rocks of the Punta Brava neighbourhood. It´s not a very long ride, but an intense one on a VERY powerfull wave.

The SantatowinBigSession will run within a waiting period of 6 months (January, February, March, October, November and December 2008), as very special weather conditions are needed for having a big wave and quality event.

Due to the long waiting period and the necessity of the chosen riders to get to the islands, 3 different teams per country (A,B and C) are invited.

As soon as the forecasts predict the suitable conditions, team A will be called. In case that Team A can not assist, Team B will be called, and so on. Each team is supposed to be in the islands within 24 hours after the call of the organization. As soon as they arrive at the airport, everything will be ready. Transport from the airport, hotel accomodation in Puerto de la Cruz, transport to the spot and the rental of the jetski will be in charge of the organization.
