After about 30 km on wet and windy roads we had to stop for the first time. The fuel filter of the T2 was blocked by rust and Kussi hat to crawl under the van and rattle at the filter. Needless to mention that the ground was soaking wet and quite muddy.
Despite driving the more modern vehicle, I had troubles following Kussie´s speed. In the pitch black dark I only could orientate me following the tiny back lights of the T2. At one point I started wondering what we were doing in this little village off the main road until we passed a street lantern and I realized that I had followed the wrong car. Good thing was that communication systems were much more modern then our vans and after a mobile call we reunited the trek.
Halfway through the island we found the first gas station. It had already opened and we filled up our fuel tanks. Meanwhile we had got in a better coordination of our driving speeds and made it to the east coast without any more interruptions. When we reached the motorway, the first daylight made it through the cloud laden sky. The cruised on the oversized motorway until the very end and entered the dusty dirt road leading to our destination. But this time, the road was not dusty. The rain had transformed it into a muddy track. It nevertheless still was very bumpy and therefor pretty soon resulted in another blocked fuel filter at the T2. Needless to say, that this problem coincided with another heavy rain squall. Kussi managed to keep the van halfway going until the rain backed a bit off und we reached a not completely soaked part of the road. Time to crawl under the van again. This time Kussi did this with a rope in hand that he tied with the filter. The other end of the rope was lead through the passenger seat window. This way Kussi could shake the filter into proper function without having to leave the car.
