At the bunker the action sometimes goes wild and the reef can claim the odd mast. But the conditions for wave-riding are really good! The sandbar in the middle of the bay is excellent for jumping and quite forgiving. Attention: Godzilla waits for you just underneath the surface before the exit of the main spot!
Cabezo only works in northeast trades, whereas the Médano bay can sometimes offer rippable side-offshore small waves conditions with winds from the southwest. Especially in winter it´s a good option to check LaFitenia in the southeast of the island. Right in front of the centre of the tourist metropolis Las Americas lies the probably best spot for westerly winds. Here you can pretty often savour good sized, powerful waves with 4.5 sails and side shore winds while El Médano stays absolutely calm. Getting in and out is quite difficult and the spot is not suited for beginners, mainly because of the jetty on the leeward side, that just waits for you getting swept along after having broken some gear. The currents are strong and drag you right into the jetty, something that can be really dangerous on days with bigger waves. The parking situation is a nightmare, but the spot is worth the hassle.
On the other coasts of the island you can find some more surf and windsurf spots, but due to the steep cliffs and rocky shores windsurfing only works with very specific conditions and most spots are very dangerous. Only recommendable for very experienced windsurfers and with local guidance. Surf spots are difficult too and most of them are heavily localized.
