Rental cars: can be found in great variety and pretty cheap. Just cars with roof racks are either expensive or hard to get (best bet without racks: www.pluscar-tenerife.com , best bet with racks: www.autoreisen.es ). If you come just for windsurfing you might be able to get along without car and just staying in El Médano. But outside the trade winds season the car is a must in order to explore the island or get to alternative spots. Tenerife is much more then El Médano (to be honest: it is definitely not the prettiest place on the island) and with a surf board and a car a windless winter week can transform in a dream week when you are able to reach the surf spots.

Accommodation: a little web search easily finds you a place to stay in and around El Médano. Our favourite is “Casas Colores”. Rudi Seeberger lets these coloured houses at the north end of the bay. The apartments offer solid furnishing, garages to store the gear, and wind-sheltered terraces on the leeward side with view on the Cabezo bay, perfectly suited for non-windsurfing travel company. The only deficit here is the near hotel Arenas Del Mar, that disturbs wind at the beach. On the other hand, the beach is very neat and entrance to the sea is easier than at the main spot.

Windsurfing: El Médano has two spots for northeast trades:
Right in town you find a flat water area perfect for racing, freestyle and speed. There are also beginner courses and kite – schools on offer.
In the bay further north (El Cabezo) meet all the wave hungry windsurfers. The further north / upwind you stay, the easier are the conditions.
