Just a quick explanation: the name originates from the fact that this Yacht Club is the last stop for Yachtsmen before leaving the BVI´s on their return trip, basically the bitter end of a great time. For us, however, it was the start, with a great dinner on a little island, called Saba Rock, just large enough for the bar that was built on it. Next morning was the day of the infamous Anegada Race, an outer island that is barely visble due to the fact that it is not more than a piece of coral and sand. The boats were lined up to guide us to that island, with a start into the literally unknown and invisible, the great of the Caribbean Sea. No boats were there as a navigation guideline to cope with the shallow reef right in front of the beach finish, resulting in some spectacular crashes.

At dinnertime those were already forgotten, with the Anegada Reef Hotel being the stage for a beautifiul tropical night, dancing barefoot in the soft sand and enjoying the best lobster we have tasted so far. And that was only the first of many wild party nights to come. In the thick of it was one supposedly descendant of the infamous/ notorious ? Jack Sparrow, Ed Sparrow, CEO of the main sponsor Highland Spring Water. He came all the way from Scotland to experience the event firsthand – and  he definitely showed some true pirate attitude, living up to the reputation of his name!

Most sailors showed up a bit tired next morning for the skippers meeting and were glad to hear that next on the agenda was the Sailing Race from Anegada back to Virgin Gorda. At least the sound of the starting gun woke everyone’s competitive spirits, and by all means the charter boats were trimmed and handled to racing standards. Even the idea to get rid of ballast was seriously discussed but discarded due to disagreement what was to be evaluated as ballast (at least all agreed that the rum bottles were not to be regarded as ballast but bare essentials!)
