Ambition faded away and was displaced by pure astonishment at the arrival at The Baths, a beach on Virgin Gorda, straight from a postcard with pure Caribbean feeling. For us it was only a splendid background for a delicious lunch under the shady palm trees before starting the 2nd windsurf race, a splendid downwinder to Trellis Bay.

On a little Rock in Trellis Bay there is the so called Last Resort, a bar that offers the perfect location for the traditional Pirate party. Hard to believe how much effort most competitors put into their costumes, but maybe for some competitors it wasn´t that hard to transform into pirates. Rumours have it that nearly everyone made it back to their boats somehow that night. No big deal for those who didn´t made it: the skippers meeting in the morning took always place at the location of last night’s party.

Trellis Bay to Deadchest, quite a way crisscrossing the Sir Francis Drake Channel to a movie like finish at the jagged and wavebattered rocks of Deadchest Island. By the way, the island where legend has it that Pirate Blackbeard left 15 of his buccaneers with a coffin and a cask of rum. We couldn´t find the empty cask nor the skeletons, but another delicious lunch, prepared directly on the beach, before all boats and crews made their way to the anchorage of Peter Island.

With the sparkling lights of Tortola in the background, the tropical sounds from Peter Island and Gabriel’s reggae CD running 24/7, this was definitely one of the most relaxing nights on our boat, a night filled with long stories and empty rum bottles....

The following days lived up to the first ones, with one highlight topping the last; small little islands and 14 perfect beaches in 7 days, heaps of racing in unbelievable conditions, basically aqua camping with perfect catering, that´s the way we were able to bear the pirate routine even without looting and pillaging!
