A strange spring trip along the French Mediterranean coast.

The winter of 2009 / 2010 was unusually long and cold in northern Germany. Global warming took a break in this region.

So we were looking really forward to our trip to southern France during the first two weeks of March. The Provence and the Cote d´Azur were chosen as destination and we expected to sneak into a little winter break and soak in some Mediterranean spring warmth and sun.

When we arrived at Nice, we indeed did get some sun. Not a single cloud was littering the view on the snow-capped mountains of the Alpes Maritimes, that glowed orange and red in the late afternoon sun. Same thing next morning, when the old harbour of nice was soaked in that typical Cote d´azur light. Just the night, that we had spent in the van parked besides these luxury yachts, had been surprisingly cold.  5 degrees is pretty low for this area. And didn´t the morning light shine a notch too cold? We forgot about this issue when we cruised along the coast and spent some time in Antibes and a few other places in this beautiful area. Traffic was o. k., at least for this area with too little non vertical space and too many people attracted by the timeless beauty of the French alps meeting the French Mediterranean Sea. Only once I got a little bit nervous, when we were stuck in some town traffic and I realized, that the Mistral was blowing. But we had to get to Lourmarin in the Luberon, where we had booked a room in a hostel.
