La Reunion Wave Classic 2010 – 25 Aug. /5th Sept.
Once again the Wave Classic Invitational concept scored big time. The careful selection of the event sites, the riders, the format of the competition and the additional activities seem to guarantee images and stories that stay attractive beyond the sheer outgoing of the competition. In fact, I never really care about who won but delight myself with the fact, that I get to see thrilling action in perfect waves at beautiful locations. Always wish I´d been there myself.
But I hadn´t so I just let the ones who´ve been there tell us about the event.
We start with Steve Palier´s (the event organizer) resume:
8 days of nonstop hardcore action, 10 ripped sails, 9 broken masts, 3 broken boards and 4 minor injuries, the result of this 2nd « Reunion Wave Classic » is quite heavy! On the paper only, because as regards to the overall assessment of the event, it is more than positive!
Over 10 minutes of TV broadcast, 12 articles published in the local newspapers, over 100 articles already spread on the web, 15000 visitors on the official website, 11300 views for the video teaser and already the enthusiasm of the international specialized press with more than 30 pages to be published! We could not expect better for this second edition which gathered fantastic conditions 8 days in a row. The show has been epic once again, from pure down the line waveriding in tubular glassy waves of Etang Salé, to big jumps in the nasty hollow waves and strong winds of Ravine Blanche. The audience enjoyed the show and still ask for more!
Although the announcement of the feasibility of this 2nd « Reunion Wave Classic » was made late, the bet of the organizers is finally successful : to provide beautiful images from a world-renowned wave spot, with champions coming from all countries, to act for just causes (environmental and social), while promoting the sport and the host destination.
