Concerning accommodation: choosing the right base camp is an issue on Tenerife. The mountainous character of the island means that even short distances require long drives. Getting from one side of the island to the opposite one includes up to two hours of driving.
If you like company and multiple options for windsurfing, surfing, kiteboarding and mountain biking with focus on fun and comfort set camp at the south-east in the
El Médano area. There you have it all within half an hour’s drive plus a good infrastructure for rental equipment.

The north-east / the Santa Cruz de Tenerife area is more suited for people searching serious culture, nightlife, hiking and biking and – if you have the patience – surfing. Winter is the best time to stay here.

If you are looking for more extreme experiences in – especially during winter – heavy surf and know how to deal with grumpy to gnarly locals, settle down at the Puerto de la Cruz area.
