But the conditions were far less exciting than the day before, so I finished after an hour and decided to start the long drive home. To make it a little less boring I wanted to follow the coast and check some more spots. On the ferry across the Nissum Bredning I realized that the clouds of the chimneys were clearly blown west. Offshore winds now! After leaving the ferry I immediately drove through town to a place I call Bunker 48. This is a very long stretch of sand beach with numerous jetties and numerous bunkers. The place has huge potential and I´ve been checking it since some time. Now the conditions seemed to be right. And indeed, the offshore wind flattened the sea and some nice lines came in fairly regularely. I walked up and down the beach and checked severall jetties. But it was everywhere the same. Waves were either breaking very close to shore or touched the outside sandbars, got steep and just didn´t break as they got into slightly deeper water again. The place needs a slightly bigger swell to work. Nevertheless must have been insane the day before. The only one out was a seal. I have never anyone surf here so next time, when the conditions are right, I won´t join the pack in Norre Vorupor or Hvide Sande but rather come here. South winds with a decent windswell or northwest swell and winds from the east are the weather patterns to look out for.

So back on the road, heading south. Thorsminde would be the next and the last stop as it was allready gettin dark. It had started to rain again, as I entered the parking lot at the inlet. Construction on the jetties seemed to be still unfinished. Suddenly I saw a guy in wetsuit and with a pretty small board sprinting to the beach. I followed immediately. And Yes, the more westerly orientation of the coastline made the best out of the dying south swell. Wind was offshore and at the small jetty north of the one boardering the inlet a short but hollow wave was breaking very close to shore. The construction works on the jetties hadn´t harmed the sandbars and besides that little tube many peaks were breaking all around. Marc, the guy with the small board, was allready in the water and made his best to master that sucky little wave and to duck into the short tube. His success rate was small but he managed to pull in into a few. He was really happy to find a good working right in that area of lefts. It got dark very quick and soon I was back on the road full of stoke about the past couple of days. Yes, the north sea can have pretty good waves and there is many untouched and empty places to have a good session. Could be warmer – hey You wetsuit manufactorers, make an effort to give us wetsuits that allow us to savour the best swelltime in winter! – but still is far better than the rest of the wourld would consider.
